Teaching Artist Artist Supply exchange!
The Teaching Artist Supply Exchange brought Austin artists and educators together to share resources, reduce waste, and support one another’s creative practices. Originally conceived by Ripley, a Teaching Artist at Creative Action, the event grew into a collaboration with Black Collar Party, which helped develop, promote, and organize the gathering at Creative Action’s office. Participants were invited to bring unused or leftover art supplies, from materials collected over the years to those no longer needed for current projects. Everything was made freely available, with no purchase or contribution required to participate. The exchange created an opportunity for artists to discover new materials, connect with fellow creatives, and make art more accessible through community resource sharing. Remaining supplies were donated to Austin Creative Reuse, extending the event’s impact by giving materials another opportunity to serve Austin’s creative community. Beyond the exchange itself, the collaboration sparked new ideas about how Black Collar Party could bring artists, organizations, and resources together to support creative opportunities throughout Austin.
